RALEIGH, N.C. (September 25, 2023) – Womble Bond Dickinson announced today that Hideki Akiyama has joined the firm’s Corporate & Securities group in Raleigh. A trusted advisor to Japanese companies doing business in the U.S., Akiyama focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, general corporate matters, labor and employment matters, and dispute resolution. He grew up, studied, and has worked in the U.S. and Japan and is well-versed in the cultural and structural differences of doing business in both countries.

“Hideki is a great fit for our Corporate & Securities and Japan practices,” said Jamie Francis, Leader of the firm’s Corporate & Securities Practice Group. “He understands that being a cross-border attorney involves more than providing legal guidance – you must help your clients navigate unfamiliar markets and legal systems to find solutions that meet their business goals.”

Akiyama has represented Japanese and U.S. companies in dispute resolution matters and arbitration proceedings before various tribunals, including the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. He has also worked for Japanese and U.S.-listed companies in cross-border energy and infrastructure projects.

This addition reflects continued momentum for the firm’s Corporate practice, which has welcomed a string of notable partners this year, including Paul Afonso (Boston), Scot Anderson (Denver), Tracy Bacigalupo (New York City), Marcantonio Barnes (Tysons, Virginia), Al Broadbent (Charlottesville, Virginia), Doug Butler (Atlanta), Rich Cameron (Washington, D.C.), Howard Herndon (Nashville), Cherylyn Harley LeBon (Tysons), and David Vance Lucas (Huntsville, Alabama).

Akiyama joined Womble from the Tokyo office of Atsumi & Sakai, where he was a partner and led their Cross-Border M&A Group. He graduated from Duke University School of Law and received his LL.B. from Keio University Faculty of Law.
