NERC Reliability Assurance Initiative: Internal Controls for Compliance

Since 2007, the utility industry has been working to improve its compliance programs based on guidance from NERC and the Regional Entities, as well as lessons learned through audits, Energy Central says on its website. “Internal Controls” are central to the RAI, so it is critical to understand the changes to obtain reasonable assurance of compliance.
Basic control elements may include: oversight, risk assessment, controls activities (e.g., operating instructions, dashboards, alarms and alerts on operational controls), communications and training, Energy Central says.
