Bina Reappointed to the Illinois Supreme Court’s Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission

The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announced that Chicago partner Mark W. Bina has been reappointed to the Illinois Supreme Court’s Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC).

Bina will serve another year on the commission which is the state agency overseeing the licensing and discipline of all Illinois-licensed attorneys. He also sits on the ARDC’s Hearing Board which serves as a fact-finder conducting evidentiary hearings for attorneys charged with misconduct, and also sits on the ARDC’s Oversight Committee.

Bina is a member of the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Health Law Practice Groups, working in state and federal trial and appellate courts across the country. In his health care practice, Bina works on regulatory and compliance issues, including disciplinary proceedings, administrative agency appeals, fraud and abuse issues, internal and governmental investigations, subpoenas, and risk mitigation.

He received his law degree from John Marshall Law School and his bachelor’s degree, with distinction, from Indiana University.

 




Akerman’s Dale Noll Named President-Elect of National LGBT Bar Association

Dale NollAkerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm, announced that trusts and estates lawyer Dale Noll has been appointed president-elect of the National Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Bar Association.

Noll will be installed as president of the country’s largest organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied legal professionals in 2017. During his tenure, he will preside over the 28th annual Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair, a leading industry event that brings together lawyers, law students, law firms and government agencies to exchange information about the important issues impacting the LGBT community. As president, Noll also will work with the board of directors to advance the National LGBT Bar Association’s mission to promote advocacy and equal access to the law for the diverse LGBT community.

He joined the National LGBT Bar Association in 2012, where he served on its finance committee for two years, and was then appointed to the board of directors as Association Treasurer. He was the 2015 co-chair of the Miami Dade County Gay and Lesbian Lawyers Association and was previously a gala committee member of the Broward County Gay and Lesbian Lawyers Network. He regularly speaks on marriage equality and estate planning issues for alternative families and same sex couples.

Kathleen McDonough Joins Wilson Elser’s Chicago Office as a Partner

McDonough deals with corporate and transactional work and general litigation matters, including product liability, complex commercial litigation, class actions, employment and transportation cases.

Dallas associate Holly B. Rampy and San Antonio associate R. Porter Corrigan II were selected for their accomplishments in family law.

Texas Super Lawyers Names 17 Strasburger Lawyers to Roster of Texas Rising Stars

Strasburger & Price, LLP has announced that 17 attorneys from across the state have been selected for inclusion in the 2016 Texas Rising Stars list. The April 2016 issue of Texas Monthly and Texas Super Lawyers – a Thomson Reuters business – Rising Stars Edition will feature the selected attorneys.

In a release, the firm said Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process is multi-phased and includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. The Rising Stars list is developed using the same multiphase selection process used for the Super Lawyers list except, to be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. While up to 5 percent of the lawyers in a state are named to Super Lawyers, no more than 2.5 percent are named to Rising Stars.

Herbert Smith Freehills Strengthens New York-Based Latin America Offering

Herbert Smith Freehills has strengthened the New York hub of its global Latin America offering, the firm announced in a release.

Projects and Infrastructure partner Juan-José Zentner relocated to Herbert Smith Freehills’ New York Office on March 1 to advise clients on the development and financing of major infrastructure projects. Juan-Jose joins International Arbitration partner Christian Leathley and the rest of the team to focus on Latin America from the New York hub, with an emphasis on mining, power and general infrastructure opportunities in the region. He was previously based in Herbert Smith Freehills’ office in Melbourne, Australia.

Fluent in English and Spanish and of Argentinean heritage, Juan-José has represented the firm’s clients in South America for more than a decade, during that time living and working in Chile for more than a year. He specializes in all forms of design, engineering, procurement and construction contracts and offtake agreements. He also has extensive experience in corporate, project and structured finance.

Herbert Smith Freehills’ highly regarded Latin America Group comprises an experienced global team in Madrid, London, Paris, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Tokyo, Beijing, and other offices across the firm’s international network. Co-led by Christian Leathley, the New York hub includes US and UK- qualified lawyers, fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, with specialist projects and infrastructure and international arbitration experience. The practice offers expertise in mining, power and general infrastructure and represents a large Australasian client base – which is one of the most active currently investing in Latin America.

The New York office also includes a team of US and UK-qualified disputes lawyers that represents clients in US courts in commercial litigation, investigations, cross-border matters and class actions. Beck Redden Attorneys Recognized as Texas Super Lawyers

Seven Beck Redden attorneys have been named as 2016 Texas Rising Stars by Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers.

The Super Lawyers list recognizes no more than five percent of attorneys in each state and the Texas Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of Texas attorneys. Dallas Attorney Paula Bennett Named Partner at Orsinger, Nelson, Downing & Anderson

Paula BennettThe family law boutique Orsinger, Nelson, Downing & Anderson, LLP, has promoted Paula A. Bennett to partner in the firm’s Dallas office.

“Paula is among the most dedicated attorneys I have ever had the honor to work with,” says firm partner Keith Nelson. “We are very proud of her commitment and hard work on behalf of her clients, confirming her role among the leaders of this firm.”

In a release, the firm says Bennett represents clients in a wide range of family law matters, including divorce and complex property issues with a particular focus on matters that affect the welfare of children. Her work includes dealing with parental custody disputes, the termination of parental rights, custody modification, custody relocation and child support matters.

Quarles & Brady Grows Intellectual Property Practice in Chicago Office

Quarles & Brady has added Shen Wang and Hao Tan to the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm’s Chicago office.

In a release, the firm says Wang focuses his practice on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. and abroad. He has experience in computer software, network, and printer control technologies. He also has experience litigating patent and International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 cases, as well as with client counseling, including patent analysis and opinion.

Hao works with clients in Asia and U.S. to obtain IP protections all over the world. Hao has drafted freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, patentability, and invalidity opinions. In addition to his prosecution work, he provides advice to prospective and existing clients about patent strategies in the U.S. and China. He has handled patent appeals before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

Wang received his law degree from Washington University School of Law, his M.B.A. from Washington University Olin Business School, his master’s degree from Old Dominion University, and his bachelor’s degree from Beijing Normal University.

Hao received his law degree from Chicago Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology, his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, and his master’s and bachelor’s degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University.
