Former DOL Attorney Peter Vassalo Joins Littler as Senior Counsel

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 10, 2025) Littler has appointed Peter Vassalo, a former senior attorney with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of the Solicitor, as senior counsel in its Washington, D.C., office, expanding its Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) practice group.

Vassalo joins the firm after nearly 30 years with the DOL, where he most recently served as Counsel for Special Litigation. In that role, he oversaw significant OSHA enforcement efforts, including the Egregious Enforcement Program and enforcement of the Process Safety Management standard. He also led national initiatives related to ergonomic enforcement and criminal investigations under OSHA statutes.

At Littler, Vassalo will bring his regulatory expertise to assist employers facing heightened OSHA scrutiny. His addition follows the firm’s recent hiring of OSHA attorney Adele Abrams, reinforcing Littler’s strategy to grow its OSHA capabilities in the capital.

In addition to his government service, Vassalo has taught advanced OSHA compliance courses at the OSHA Training Institute, covering topics such as PSM, enforcement strategies, and citation procedures.

Vassalo holds a law degree from Case Western Reserve University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan.
