H. James Abe Joins Buchalter as IP Shareholder in Los Angeles
Attorney H. James Abe has joined Buchalter as an Intellectual Property Shareholder in its Los Angeles office and as a member of the firm’s Japan Practice Group.
Buchalter announced the addition of Abe, who brings experience advising companies on intellectual property matters, commercial disputes, licensing, and corporate transactions. He is fluent in Japanese and frequently represents Japanese clients in U.S. litigation, as well as serving as outside general counsel for U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese firms.
Abe’s legal practice spans multiple industries, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, and apparel. His work includes litigation involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, as well as corporate acquisitions and licensing.
Firm President and CEO Adam Bass said Abe strengthens the firm’s national IP practice and enhances its capabilities in the Japanese market. Masahisa Mitsunaga, Chair of Buchalter’s Japan Practice, highlighted Abe’s bilingual litigation skills as a key asset for the team.
Abe earned his law degree, cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. He previously worked at Terumo Cardiovascular Systems Corp. for seven years before entering law.
