Neil Foster is a corporate technology Solicitor with over 20 years advising on complex transactions. His practice covers mergers & acquisitions, venture capital & private equity and corporate finance. His principal sector experience is in the areas of technology and telecommunications, fintech, media and entertainment, life sciences and energy technology. As well as advising UK companies, venture funds and intermediaries, Neil represents many large U.S., Middle Eastern, South African and Asian corporations on their UK and European deals. Neil qualified in 1996 and became a partner in 2003.

Foster is experienced in complex cross-border transactions. This work is balanced between in-bound deals for large international corporates and deals for UK companies especially where IP and/or technology are the key assets.

Tim Davison has significant experience in the areas of TMT, life sciences and healthcare sectors and advises on a wide range of transactions including corporate finance, M&A, reorganisations, joint ventures and other general corporate and commercial matters. In addition, Mr. Davison advises on general company procedure, corporate law and governance.

Within the technology sector, Davison’s practice includes advising on strategic alliances, licensing and complex technology and sourcing transactions covering the whole range of hardware, software, security and data usage, online assets, IT services, engineering assets, cleantech and alternative energy. In the media and telecoms industries, he advises clients in the sectors of digital media, online and offline brands, mobile and other telecoms, broadcasting, games, television channels, distribution and content. His practice in the life sciences sector covers discovery and therapeutics, devices, diagnostics, services and software.

Melaney has advised on a broad range of corporate transactions, including share acquisitions, joint ventures and private and public equity finance. Her principal sector focuses are in the areas of financial services, media and technology, energy and cleantech. In addition, Melaney has also provided advice to Official List companies, AIM-quoted companies, financial advisers and NOMADs on general company procedure, corporate law and governance and the application of the Listing Rules/ AIM Rules.




Jackson Walker Appoints Priya Coffey and Mike Taten as Office Managing Partners

Jackson Walker is pleased to announce S. Priya Coffey and Michael E. Taten have been appointed as managing partners of the Houston and Dallas offices, respectively.

A partner in the Real Estate practice, Priya assists clients with complex commercial real estate transactions, including the representation of buyers and sellers in the acquisition and disposition of raw land, office buildings and retail centers, and the representation of landlords and tenants in commercial office building leases and retail leases.

Outside of her practice, Priya serves on Jackson Walker’s Management and Compensation committees, the Board of Directors of Recipe for Success, and the University of Chicago’s Houston Regional Council. She is also a member of the South Asian Bar Association of Houston, the Houston chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women, and The Junior League of Houston, Inc. In addition, Priya stepped up to help the Houston community in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Under her leadership, Jackson Walker attorneys and staff volunteered more than 2,000 hours toward providing relief by collecting monetary contributions, coordinating volunteer and pro bono efforts, and reaching out to displaced clients and those in the legal community who were affected by the floods.

In honor of her leadership excellence and commitment to the community, the Texas Diversity Council recognized Priya among the Top 50 Women Lawyers of Houston in 2017.

Mike focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactions, joint ventures, executive employment and compensation arrangements, equity financing transactions, and corporate governance. His clients represent a diversity of industry sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing and distribution, technology, and service providers. Since 2014, Mike has been recognized as a “Texas Super Lawyer” in Thomson Reuters’ Super Lawyers list.

In addition to his practice, Mike has held leadership roles within the Firm as a chair of the Dallas Corporate & Securities practice group, a three-year member of the Management Committee – for which he was recently re-elected to serve a second term, and a member of the Compensation Committee. Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Ferry Joins Bradley

Mr. Ferry focuses his practice primarily on Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) violations, procurement and mortgage fraud, as well as fraud involving the Small Business Administration, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Housing and Urban Development. He has extensive knowledge of healthcare statutes and regulations, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, and the Food Drug and Cosmetics Act, and their application to various business arrangements and marketing activities.

As an AUSA, Mr. Ferry served as the healthcare fraud coordinator for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and led the affirmative civil enforcement department. He developed the Healthcare Fraud False Claims Act program and recovered over $280 million in government program funds. Previously, Mr. Ferry served as Assistant General Counsel for the Central Intelligence Agency, where he was deputy chief of the High Value Terrorist Prosecution Task Force.

Mr. Ferry has been a frequent speaker on healthcare fraud matters for the ABA Healthcare Fraud Conference (Stark Law developments), North Carolina Association of Health Care Attorneys, the Taxpayer’s Against Fraud National Conference and continuing legal education events. Mr. Ferry also served on the faculty at the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Training Center.

Mr. Ferry received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University. He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Judge Larry Edmondson on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

During the month of January, Jackson Walker proudly welcomed Joe Flack, David Parker, and John Wittenberg as partners in the Houston and San Antonio offices. In addition, the Firm added Dana Murphy as senior counsel in the Dallas office.

Meet Joe

Focused on oil and gas transactions, Joe F. Flack’s substantial upstream representations include buyers and sellers in acquisitions and divestitures, borrowers and lenders in reserve-based lending transactions, and grantors and grantees in conveyancing transactions. He also has led various diligence examinations with regards to property and title issues.

Additionally, Joe has handled midstream matters for gatherers and producers/shippers in gathering agreements, and processors and producers in processing agreements. He also offers broad experience related to energy transactions, including exploration and development agreements, farmout agreements, participation agreements, joint operating agreements, gas gathering agreements, processing agreements, and oil and gas leases.

Prior to private practice, David was an analyst and lender at a leading Texas bank.

Bringing previous experience as an executive vice president and corporate counsel at one of the 60 largest U.S. banks, John D. Wittenberg, Jr. represents banks and other financial services companies on commercial finance, real estate finance, equipment finance, and business transactions.

With nearly 30 years of multifaceted and multidisciplinary transaction experience, John concentrates on syndicated transactions, direct lending transactions, secured financings, acquisition and bridge financings, refinancing facilities, loan workouts and restructurings, and other types of complex credit facilities. He also has significant experience handling regulatory compliance, vendor contract, capital markets, public funds, and treasury management matters, along with commercial real estate—acquisition, disposition, leasing, and development—transactions.

Brett Carey

An extremely versatile attorney, Brett Carey practices in the areas of insurance coverage and bad faith, employment, and commercial litigation. He represents insurers in first and third party coverage matters, including claims involving personal and commercial lines of insurance, and claims involving extra-contractual liability and bad faith disputes. He also has extensive experience representing insurance companies and other clients in contract disputes, claims of fraud and misrepresentation and other commercial litigation.

Samantha Duke

Samantha Duke practices in the areas of commercial litigation and product liability. In 2016, Duke was an integral member of a team in securing a denial of class certification in a multi-state putative class action venued in the Northern District of California. Abigail Roberts

Abigail Roberts practices in the areas of aviation law, drone law and appeals. Roberts played a large role in the successful defense of the American Airlines Flight 331 crash in Kingston, Jamaica in December 2009.

Alston & Bird Adds Senior Trial Attorney Jason Levine as Partner in Washington, D.C.

Alston & Bird has expanded its antitrust and commercial litigation capabilities with the addition of senior trial attorney Jason Levine as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Levine arrives from Vinson & Elkins LLP, where he was a partner for eight years.

A versatile first-chair trial and courtroom lawyer for 24 years, Levine has spent his career litigating high-stakes business cases and defending against bet-the-company antitrust class actions. He has tried 14 jury, bench, and arbitral trials across the country and served as lead counsel in a wide array of commercial disputes encompassing all manner of contract and business tort claims. Complementing his trial practice, Levine has also briefed more than two dozen cases on appeal, including in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Levine has represented companies as both plaintiffs and defendants in commercial disputes, including cases seeking money damages from the federal government. He has also served as lead defense counsel to major global companies in several of the country’s largest antitrust class actions and multidistrict proceedings involving claims of price-fixing in the technology industry. Additionally, he often advises and represents clients in exigent matters involving injunctive relief.

Among his recent victories, Levine was lead trial counsel to a global shipbuilder in winning the award of a $1.5 billion subcontract for naval warships in a two-part international arbitration trial against the prime contractor, a large multinational defense firm; he served as lead counsel to more than 225 dialysis clinics in litigation against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for years of underpayment for dialysis services provided to veterans and secured a close-to-trial settlement of $538 million; and he tried to a jury a $100 million breach of contract case filed against a Fortune 500 client by a former business partner, winning a full defense verdict on the plaintiffs’ claim and a summary judgment award of $14 million for his client on its own affirmative claim.

A frequent commentator on litigation risks in the high-tech industry, Levine is also active in legal and professional circles. He is a member of the Liability Reform Litigation Advisory Committee of the U.S. Chamber Litigation Center and serves on the Executive Committee of the Litigation Practice Group of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies. A former adjunct professor of constitutional law at Georgetown University Law Center, he also clerked for the Hon. Randall R. Rader, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The addition of this team reflects the firm’s continued investment in North Carolina which encompasses the addition of 11 lawyers since summer 2018, including a six-lawyer team led by Rob Marcus from the former Smith Moore Leatherwood firm and, most recently, Jon Ferry from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina.

Horoschak represents numerous national and regional health systems in a variety of capacities. He regularly appears before federal and state antitrust enforcement agencies in securing clearance for mergers, joint ventures and other transactions. He also has served as counsel for health systems throughout the country in antitrust litigation involving managed care contracting, medical staff privileges, economic credentialing, physician recruitment practices, nurse salary determinations, and exclusive provider arrangements.

Previously, Horoschak served as Assistant Director of the Bureau of Competition of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In that capacity, he was responsible for antitrust enforcement policy governing healthcare systems and served as trial counsel in lawsuits challenging hospital mergers. Prior to that position, he served as an attorney-advisor for the FTC chairman and as chief of staff for the agency during the transition between the Reagan and Bush presidential administrations. He received his J.D. from the College of William and Mary Law School and his Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) from American University.

Hayles is a seasoned antitrust attorney who provides guidance to clients across the country on hospital and physician practice mergers, antitrust litigation and investigations, and managed care contracting practices. He has significant experience practicing before the FTC, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division, and numerous state attorneys general. In addition, Hayles’ deep commitment to pro bono service includes his practice before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, through which he routinely pursues claims for disability benefits on behalf of military veterans.

Hayles received his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law and his Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University.

Fischer focuses his practice on advising clients in the healthcare sector and has significant experience in provider transactions and managed care contracting. He regularly represents clients before the FTC, the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, and state competition regulators. He also counsels clients on Hart-Scott-Rodino Act issues.

Fischer received his J.D. (with honors) from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He also holds a Master of Arts (with honors) from Wake Forest University and a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) from the University of North Carolina.

Long counsels healthcare and other clients on a wide variety of antitrust and competition issues. Her experience includes advising public and private companies in M&A issues involving the FTC and DOJ. Her practice also includes litigating competition-related disputes, as well as assisting clients with creating and maintaining effective antitrust compliance programs.

Long received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University.
