The Network for Public Health Law has made available a complimentary on-demand webinar providing an overview of the current public health and legal landscape of medical marijuana.

On its website, The Network for Public Health Law says 21 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized medical marijuana and eight other states are considering legislation in 2014. As medical marijuana laws expand, state governments and health departments have the daunting task of developing and implementing rules and regulations.

This webinar provides an overview of the current public health and legal landscape of medical marijuana; examines patient registries, product testing, adolescent use, drugged driving and other health and policy concerns; and explores the evaluation of current laws and possible evidence-based strategies to protect public health, the Network says.

The American Society of Retina Specialists will present a webinar on practices to develop a process for continuously evaluating payer contracts in order to ensure maximum reimbursement in Medicare Advantage contract cases.

The webinar will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time.

On its website, the Society says that, too commonly, physicians do not have an overall strategy for negotiating contracts in order to obtain the best possible rates for private and Medicare Advantage Plans.

The webinar will address: managing policies that restrict access to physicians’ choice of drugs – prior authorization, etc.; understanding the fee schedule for J codes; how to review IPAs; and how to handle disputes when they arise.

The Network for Public Health Law, CDC’s Public Health Law Program and the American Health Lawyers Association co-sponsored a webinar on the legal implications of ebola, and the audio and slides from that event are available on-demand.

The webinar describes the recent outbreak of the Ebola virus in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, discuss legal issues that arise when infected patients enter the U.S., and explore legal powers and duties health department personnel have if an Ebola outbreak occurs in the U.S. Speakers will accept questions from participants at the end of the presentation.
