Salesforce, Zendesk Tap New Top Lawyers Amid Software Rivalry

“Salesforce.com Inc. and Zendesk Inc., competitors in the customer service software space, are starting 2021 with new general counsels,” reports Brian Baxter in Bloomberg Law’s The United States Law Week.

“Salesforce has promoted Todd Machtmes, executive vice president of commercial legal, while Zendesk has hired Shanti Ariker, a former member of the Israeli Defense Forces and one-time general counsel of Salesforce’s philanthropic arm.”

“Machtmes will assume his new position Feb. 1, the same day that the president and chief legal officer, Amy Weaver, becomes chief financial officer at Salesforce. Machtmes has spent nearly the past 16 years at the cloud-based software company, which he joined in 2005 after spending five years in-house at Adobe Systems Inc.”

“Ariker takes over from Hasani Caraway, who left Zendesk in November to become the first in-house legal chief at software startup Notions Labs Inc.”

Former Top Attorney at Harley-Davidson Named Marquette University’s General Counsel

“Marquette University named the former top attorney at Harley-Davidson Inc. as its new vice president and general counsel,” reports Sari Lesk in Milwaukee Business Journal’s Education.

“Paul Jones starts Jan. 4 in his new position. He spent 10 years as an executive officer for the Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer. There, he managed Harley’s global legal risk and oversaw the company’s legal matters, according to the Milwaukee university.”

“The Milwaukee Business Journal named Jones a top corporate counsel in 2019. Jones left Harley-Davidson last year as its chief legal officer and chief compliance officer.”

Robert Stebbins to Conclude Tenure as SEC General Counsel

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced December 8, 2020 “that Robert B. Stebbins will conclude his tenure as General Counsel in early January, after serving over three and a half years as the agency’s chief legal officer,” announced U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in a Press Release.

Penn National Gaming Names Everi’s Harper Ko as new General Counsel

New York-listed Penn National Gaming has confirmed that long-standing general counsel Carl Sottosanti will retire at the end of this year, posted Penn National in their Press Releases.

Sottosanti will retire as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary on 31 December after 17 years’ service at Penn National.
